Position Summary:

Opokaa’sin Early Intervention Society is seeking an Interim C.E.O. to join our team of dedicated professionals!

Opokaa’sin is a community-based, not-for-profit, Indigenous organization that provides programs and services for children and families in southern Alberta. Opokaa’sin provides a comprehensive and holistic spectrum of prevention and early intervention services aimed at strengthening the families through Blackfoot child rearing practices and values. This includes, parenting programs/support, child care services, head start, kindergarten, youth mentorship, family support and after school programming. Opokaa’sin is the host agency for the Indigenous Family Resource HUB for southern Alberta.

Opokaa’sins’ vision is of a healthy community where Indigenous families, children and youth are proud, healthy connected and resilient. Our mission is to nurture and support the strengths and connections of Indigenous children, youth and families. The Director will hold a key leadership position in the organization. You will be reporting to the Board of Directors and must possess strong leadership skills, have a solid awareness and understanding of Blackfoot/Indigenous cultural protocols and values, possess a team mindset, flexibility to changing working conditions, strong written and verbal communication skills and can respond efficiently and effectively to the needs of the community.

 

The C.E.O. must also provide financial leadership by managing multiple budgets and monitoring the allocations of resources within a fiscally responsible manner. Other key responsibilities include fundraising, marketing and community outreach. In addition, the Director of Opokaa’sin will be responsible to ensure Blackfoot protocol and culture are integral to operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and orientation of the board.

  • Ensures execution of Opokaa’sins’ strategic plan.

  • Responsible for upholding the branding and public image of Opokaa’sin in the community by ensuring the organization is active and visible in the community in a positive manner.

  • Present and propose annual budgets to the Board

  • Ensure monthly financial reporting is communicated to board and senior management

  • Responsible for fiscal management and integrity

  • Overseeing fundraising and budget shortfalls are addressed.

  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the facility

  • Responsible for developing other avenues of funding.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing employment policies that reflect and adhere to provincial labour standards.

  • Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality and ethical standards at all times.

  • All other duties as required by the Board of Directors.

 

Requirements:

  • A degree in human services, management or related field with a minimum of three years (3) progressive management experience at a senior management level, (preferably in the not-for-profit sector).

  • Culturally knowledgeable and competent (Blackfoot specific)

  • Experience with Indigenous community programs

  • Experience with engagement funders and donors. Demonstrated knowledge of

  • working with a Board of Directors

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Financial Management skills
