Blackfoot Language Transcriber

CONTRACT POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual will work in cooperation with the Blackfoot Language Instructor to produce 30-five minute videos on Blackfoot stories, legends, land and family connections, and Values.  Interviews with the First Nation Elders and Resource People, totaling 150 minutes.  The videos will be in Blackfoot with English subtitles (transcription).

 

The Transcriber will, in cooperation with the Blackfoot Language Instructor, transcribe the videos to the English language working on word document to later be uploaded to Thinglink, Rising Spirit Library.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recording Elders and First Nations Resource (Video/Audio)

  • Edit Recordings as required

  • Transcribing Blackfoot Audio to English (in cooperation with Blackfoot Language Instructor)

  • Evaluation of texts and audios for accuracy

  • Upload to Thinglink digital library and YouTube

  • Upload to Flash drive for Elder’s / First Nation Resource copy

 

REPORTING LINE: Accountable to the Program Manager

Rate of Pay: $20.00/hour - Contracted Hours 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:​

  • Ability and or experience working with the Indigenous Population

  • Awareness and understanding of the Blackfoot Culture, Language and Protocols   

  • Strong typing skills, and good audio listening skills

  • Basic computer skills such as word & excel

  • Availability to work flexible hours (evenings & weekends)

  • Organized, attention to detail; ability to follow-up with instructions, standards and requirements.

Term Position: December 2019 - March 31, 2020
