Childcare Team Leader

CONTRACT POSITION SUMMARY:

Childcare Team Leader will coordinate and monitor the childcare services offered by Opokaa'sin Early Intervention Society, the position involves office administration, management of staff, including scheduling, professional development and training, as well as providing direct childcare as required. The Childcare Team Leader will assist Childcare Educators in their daily activities, develop programs and activities for children and promote a welcoming and positive environment. The Childcare Team Leader will build positive and respectful relationships with children, parents and staff, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.

 

The Childcare Team Leader is responsible for providing leadership in keeping with the philosophy of the Early Learning and Child Care Program at Opokaa’sin Child Development Centre as well as for quality client service to foster student success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, guide and participate with children in daily planned activities

  • Plan appropriate activities and possibilities that encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels of the children, activities that are culturally appropriate and represent diversity

  • Be sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs, and be willing to adjust planning daily

  • Provide educational, cultural teachings and/or opportunities, interact with children to encourage their involvement

  • Consult with Wisdom committee on matters related to delivery of Culture and Language

  • Plan, prepare and implement daily activities as they relate to the Play, Participation and Possibilities framework

  • Provide a warm, safe and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing

  • To assist children and families in accessing community activities

  • Track attendance and maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis, Hi Mama online database

 

REPORTING LINE: Accountable to the Program Director

Rate of Pay: $25.00 - $30.00/hour - Contracted Hours, wage based on Early Childhood Certification and supervisory experience, not including Childcare Wage Top-up.

 

Administrative

  • Assist the Childcare Manager with the development and monitoring of the Childcare Educators

  • Provide monthly nominal roll directly to finance for invoicing  

  • Ensure that adequate records are maintained in accordance with licensing standards and accreditation requirements

  • Maintain Alberta Childcare Licensing

  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

  • Regularly contact, and act as a resource for, parents and caregivers.

 

Program Development, Planning and Implementation

  • Collaborate with Educators to plan and implement a program that reflects the philosophy of Opokaa’sin Child Development Centre Children’s Program.

 

Staff Management

  • Manage Educator resources effectively, with Childcare Manager's approval, to ensure that they work as members of a team, have input into planning and have opportunities for improving their professional skills.

  • Provide coverage for absent Child Care staff when required, this includes breaks and lunch breaks.

  • Support team meetings at least once a month

  • Provide support and direction to caregivers regarding child development, supervision as outlined in policy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:​

  • Degree in Human Services, preferably in Education, Social Work and/or Management, Early Childhood Degree/Diploma

  • Substantial experience in early childhood development, parent education and/or training.

  • Minimum two years previous supervisory experience

  • Knowledgeable about social, emotional and cognitive development

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

  • Excellent written & oral communication skills

  • Ability to work flexible hours

  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and language

  • Must undergo a Child Welfare and Criminal Record Check  (CYIM & CRIM)
