Education Assistant

Position Summary:

The Educational Assistants support students as part of a multidisciplinary team with teachers and other support personnel to provide meaningful instruction. Educational assistants also help teachers with non-instructional tasks.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of one or several teachers.

  • Work with students who have special needs.

  • Work with individual students or groups of students both in the classroom and other settings.

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Supervise students in structured (classroom) and unstructured (hallways, recess, lunch hour) settings.

  • Assist with preparing materials and clerical tasks as required.

  • Implement lesson and behavioral plans for students as directed by the teacher.

  • Motivate and encourage students to participate in learning activities.

  • Observe and report student behaviour and progress.

  • Collect and prepare learning materials and use assistive technology to support student learning.

Reporting Line: Accountable to the Program Director

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma; or preferred education CYC Diploma, Educational Assistant or Early Childhood Diploma

  • Blackfoot speaker

  • Ability and experience working with Aboriginal children

  • Awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture, language and issues

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • Excellent written & oral communication skills

  • Must submit Child Welfare and Criminal Record check.
